"Jimmy, don't curse at mommy. Now go to time out."
First, I want to apologize about not posting for so long. Procrastination is something I excel at amazingly. Sorry. I blame high school life. ^^
Now, let's take a moment to think about child discipline, shall we? I have a pretty wide view of child discipline in general because I've been there. A lot. Now, hitting your children. A.)Right or B.)Wrong?
If you chose either one, turn in you parenting license. Classes start Tuesday.
Well, now you probably think I'm a nut case. Well, I won't disagree with you (neither will my girlfriend) but, there is a reason behind my opinion. You see, it all depends on what works for the child. Now, if you have a pretty obedient child who will stop when you tell him/her to, then fine. If a stern talking to calms your child down, then you can keep your belt around your waist. However, what if the child doesn't respond to your words?
I've seen many instances where the child is on a rampage in public and all the parent does is resort to "Please stop, don't do that" only to be totally ignored. Once I even saw a kid (5 years old, by the way) say "Shut up, mommy!" And continued to run around. Now, here's where I thought, "Whoa. This kid's in trouble now!"
The next thing I hear is, "Bobby, that was very rude! No candy!" From the kid's response, I'd say he didn't like candy because, if anything, he carried on even more than before. Walmart can be very entertaining in the fall, but I digress.
Now, my personal opinion is that maybe, just maybe, a spank on the rear would have calmed that situation. I mean, a lot of people I know had spankings and they turned out great. Lawyers, graphic artists, musicians, ever writers. Now, for those of you who believe that spankings are child abuse may either have no children, have really good children who don't need it, or have children that walk all over you as you try to stay in denial. Also notice I said "spank" not "beat the holy crap out of". Yes, there is a difference.
I know the difference because I've been there, like I said. I've had spankings and then I've had the latter. Now, if you spank them, it's bend them over your knee, a couple firm whacks (please refrain from a reenactment of the movie "Roots") and you're done.
The moment you decide to bring in punches, then foreign objects (power cords, hot irons, or any blunt objects with the potential to hospitalize), then congratulations, dude! You're a child abuser! With great pride we award with with an all expenses paid trip to County with a (non)luxurious room with the beautiful(not) Big Bubba/Birtha! You'll spend the next few years being violated by your cellmate and his/her friends! Yay!
Yeah, anyway...
I hear spanking is against the law now. What the deuce? Why in the heck is the government stepping into the parenting scene? I wouldn't have a problem if they offered to babysit, too. Some of you saw what happened in schools when certain disciplinary actions were banned. They ran wild, which is why when I have kids, they will never go to a public school. Plus, public school sucked for me. I'm biased on that one. Sue me.
I understand that child abuse is a problem, but there has to be a better way than interfering with all parenting in general. I mean if I have a kid who's rampaging through the toy store, tearing stuff up and saying, "Up yours, dad," you're telling me that I'm not allowed to stop him unless it's with my words? And I'm not going to even consider boarding school if a simple smack on the butt every now and then solves the problem.
We've gotta stop this, folks. Nowadays, if you give your child a smack on the behind, you risk getting them taken away. It's like accusing martial arts competitors of being killers. Sure, if they go too far, they could end up taking a life, but they have enough control not to.
To me, I think this law is just a lazy way of stopping child abuse, but because of it, we may end up dealing with parent abuse next. If your child walks all over you because you can't touch them, what else do you think will happen?
